About the Project

The idea for the Arts in Conservation Education Web site stemmed from the 2005 Smithsonian Folklife Festival’s Forest Service, Culture, and Community program. That summer, Festival visitors learned about conservation through expressions of art, music, and more. Recognizing the importance of conservation and the power of art and music, the National Endowment for the Arts partnered with the Smithsonian Institution to produce a traveling exhibition, Inspirations from the Forest. The exhibition traveled across the United States to dozens of different venues, encouraging local artists to participate in conservation education.

This Web site is co-sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Smithsonian Institution.
