Thirty local scholars in Hawai'i researched island folklife for the 1989 Smithsonian Festival of American Folklife on the National Mall. Dr. Richard Kennedy, Deputy Director of the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, with the help of Lynn Martin of the Hawai'i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, organized that research and documentation for these Web pages.
